Reverend Mar Imsong  is a direct product of American Baptist missionary work in Nagaland, an area in northeast India, Rev. Imsong was born and brought up in a Christian minister’s family.  He fully believes that building strong, self-reliant missionary churches is crucial.

Though First Baptist is a smaller church, less than 100 members, Rev. Imsong is attracted to the multi-culturally diverse congregation.  He is also excited about the church’s mission activities which include delivering food and socks to orphanages in Bulgaria and, on a more recent trip, producing a film to promote support for a social center in Sofia that would provide medical and dental services as well as a place for fellowship.

Currently, Rev. Imsong is a doctoral candidate at Boston University School of Theology, nearing completion of his dissertation on “Ethnicity, Identity and Religion.”  He holds two Master’s Degrees, one in Systematic Theology from Princeton Theological Seminary and one in Christian Theology from Gurukul Lutheran Theological College in India.  He also has two Bachelor’s Degrees from Eastern Baptist Theological College in Jorhat, India.  In addition to attending school, Rev. Imsong has been working since 1999 as a manager of  the Walnut Street Center in Somerville, a non-profit human service agency for persons with mental disabilities.

Rev. Imsong’s wife, Bendangsangla (Ben), has a Bachelor of Theology degree and has served as a co-minister.  The Imsongs have a daughter, Aren , and two sons, Stephen and Kris.  They are a musical family who enjoy sharing their love of God through singing.
